Spy in the Sky
Written by Billy W on March 27, 2009
Ever since I bought my Nikon DSLR, I shoot around Tokyo every chance I get. Today, I worked in Ikebukuro and took advantage of the building’s rooftop access for the purpose of getting some good shots from up high. I’m sure I’ll be putting all of the best ones into a piece for 7:10 in the near future, but for now, I’ve included a few in this here post.

Your very luck to have roof top access as shown in the good photos. Love the blue colors in the night shots.

@Paul:
Yeah, it really was good luck. Originally, I brought the camera with the intention of shooting from the 4th floor office through an open window. However, once I pulled the camera out, one of my co-workers suggested going up to the rooftop smoking area. Cha-ching!

Looks good. I think I will take your advice and get a DSLR. You’re taking Jason Collin’s spot as the ninja photographer.
#3 would make a nice tilt-shifter.

Some awesome photos man.
There is something that I always wanted to know. I dont know too much about photography, but you took those pics with a SLR (big black camera lol) right?
How close to that quality can i get with a regular compact digi cam?

Yeah, it’s definitely worth the investment. The Nikon D-80 and D-90 models are very nice for the price. I went with the D-60, which is just the D-80 without the internal autofocus and love it. I got it as a “Double-Zoom Kit” (ダブルズームキット) for around \65,000. Came with an 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 lens and a 55-200mm f/4-5.6 lens. Both lenses have autofocus, so the lack of an internal motor isn’t an issue
@Prometheus:
Thanks. For point-and-click photography, there are some nice compact digital cameras, but for high-quality special shots, you need a DSLR.
@Chris B:
Thanks. Yeah, why not get yourself a new toy that will give you awesome-quality shots for your website?
